Iced Water Will Make You Fat

How many times have we been hearing the elders tell us "Don't drink cold or iced water because it will make you fat."? You know how the elders would have these "sayings" and if you, being an innocent and curious child, ask them "Why?" they don't know the rationale but despite the unknown explanation, we still listen because we know they know much better? Well, I just wanted to share with you guys the real fact about iced water.

ReplyDeleteI dont know this myth, pero I believe drinking tea after meals (like Japanese and Chinese do) help digest food fast? Haha

My Mom hates it that I drink cold water, all the more when she sees my glass with a lot of ice! She sings kase, that's why. Good post dear. I'm sure people who will read this will learn something new. At least those who keep saying that it's bad will think twice before saying it, hehe. I'm a fan of cold water and iced water ─ nakakawala ng pagod.Ãœ

russ - onga e hahahaha actually i had to deal with that too kasi i also sing and once, i strained myself too much (tuluy-tuloy kasi ung practice & performance for 5 months) that i lost my voice for 3 months. =( sensitive na ako sa iced water ever since. =( sooooo hahahaha medyo paminsan-minsan ko nalang nilalagyan ice ung water ko hahaha--pag kelangan ko talagang ma-refresh. haha. fan din ako ng cold water... wow your mom sings? i bet u have a nice voice too. :D

ReplyDeleteinteresting, this is actually the first time that I heard about this myth. anyway, I always drink cold (not necessarily iced) water always, and I'm not that fat, so I guess it really is a myth.

buong akala ko pa rin talaga eh masama ang malamig na tubig pagkatapos kumain. kasi naninigas daw yung mga oil na kinain. thanks for this info. parang pwede ka na nga yatang sumali sa Discovery Channel's Myth Busters. hehehe.
ReplyDeleteHahahha Kuya Rj... Drink cold water lang after waking up or before meals but after meals, it's much better na medyo ung tama lang (as in ung hindi iced) kasi according to some sites, yes, nagsosolidify ung fats, making them harder to digest.

(hahhaa) Sabi ng ibang articles, ok lang daw since pagpasok naman sa katawan nung water, our body adjusts the temperature of the water (actually, everything that we have swallowed) so the fats that had been initially solidified will go back to its form before the water came in. :) Tsaka our stomach is going to make sure to get rid of those solid lumps before passing them on to our intestines... un ung nabasa ko a... :D

hi sis! yup i heard about this myth many times from our neighbors and some of my friends, and i also don't believe it hehehe. some even say that it can bulge your stomach. i really don't see any rationale about it except until i received an email that drinking cold beverages (and not just water) after a meaty (and fatty) meal could cause the fat to somewhat "solidify" because of the cold temperature.. hmmm... makes sense but i'm not so convinced about it as well. i've been drinking cold water after dinner all my life and i never got any fatter hehehehe! :D
ReplyDeleteVeronica - Hahaha yeah... I'm glad you've heard about this one cos a lot of the other bloggers haven't heard about this yet... Lol... Regarding the fat + cold water thing, there are studies that are still undergoing since a lot had been contradicting the fact that the fat will solidify once inside the stomach. they said that even inside the stomach, that iced water will soon adjust its temperature to our core's and the fat will no longer be in solid form... haha. So good luck to them. Hahaha... Yeah, iced water and its wonders lol.

ReplyDeleteI have heard, "Don't drink cold water because it will give you cramps."
My wife tells me, "Don't drink cold water, it will give you terrible gas." (which I'd never heard before meeting her).
It likely comes from confusing ice cold carbonated sugary drinks (which will make you fat) with water. Let's face it, carbonated (and sugary) drinks taste best cold.
Richard- It's one of the "reminders of the elders" thing here in our country... lol... Probably that's why you never heard of it. :)
